Dry run not so good

MAMP & My Laptop
A couple months back I was successful in getting MAMP installed on my laptop so that I could host multiple instances of Drupal. I needed this because I travel for work often enough that I just want to tweak and test things without needing internet access.
Now when I say "successful", I mean to say that someone helped me get it there. I got things mostly installed but needed assistance with the proper type of database, help understanding phpmyadmin, and getting mysql setup. I have no since blocked that information. I promise in the future to document these types of things right after I do them so that everyone else can benefit.
After that was all setup, I requested more assistance from the the person who helped me with MAMP. That person, btw, is JohnAlbin - my "Palantir Wonder Twin" (story for another time) in action and also maintainer of Zen theme in Drupal, among other things. I asked John to help me install Drush on my laptop so that I could quickly download code from d.o (drupal.org). I LUV Drush, but I also don't mind a little bit of command line.
After getting that all setup, thank you John, I setup an instance do d6 and d7. And yep. thats about it.
Stupid GoDaddy, Stupid D7
Earlier this week I decided to try installing D7 on a GoDaddy hosted site. I'm building a site for my cousin's new bar "Mollie's Public House" and I chose GoDaddy b/c that's the hosting service I'm most familiar with. I use them for all my other sites and so far have been very happy.
Lets just say this:
Lesson 1: D7 isn't exactly ready for production. It is still in alpha, I just thought I could get away with trying it out on a basic content only website. I got yelled at by my co-developer friends for trying to run D7 on a live site. Lesson learned.
Lesson 2: GoDaddy and D7 hate each other and I don't know why. Larry Garfield pointed me at HUGE ASS thread about installation problems with D7 on service providers similar to D7, but that didn't help me out with anything other than being annoyed. There's nothing I hate more than reading a thread 130 comments deep. I just can't grok it b/c it often covers stuff WAY OVER MY HEAD. I try, but everytime I feel frustrated. Here's the thread...http://drupal.org/node/686196. I hope to try to follow back on it to see if there's something I can request from GoDaddy to help me complete the installation process with D7 in the future.
Lesson 3: Go with what you know best and is most stable. The answer to that is, install D6.
Here's the best news though, that makes me not say "Stupid GoDaddy". I have shell access!!! They didn't use to have that. They do now though!!!
